The Whitehaven Townscape Heritage Initative project has successfully brought back into use the former YMCA building, working alongside the owners to restore and enhance this property to provide social housing and training for young people. Further properties have been restored and brought back into use through the project, supported by training initiatives in traditional skills.
The impact of this THI scheme for Whitehaven is impressive. HERA have been involved in the Development and Delivery of this project since its Round 1 National Lottery Heritage Fund Award; providing expert advice to inform the award of grant; retained as Project Monitors throughout the Delivery Phase to safeguard Lottery investment, providing specialist advice and support to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the grantee.
